As voted by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association ALL-STATE BASKETBALL From staff reports First-year Hamilton Christian girls basketball head coach Edwin Colbert was named Coach of the Year on the Louisiana Sports Writers Associa- tion Class 1A All-State team. Colbert led the War- riors to the state cham- pionship tournament for the first time in school history. Hamilton reached the semifinals of the select Division IV playoffs and finished with a 22-7 record.

Bryson Colbert was named to the second-team all- state after averaging 16.5 points, 6.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game while leading the Warriors to the quarterfinals. On the Class 2A team, Southwest Louisiana players swept both girls awards with Renotta Edwards being voted Coach of the Year and Addison Fruge voted Most Valu- able Player. Edwards led the War- riors to their first state title. Oakdale beat three of the top four seeds in the state en route to the non-select Division IV title, including a road win over top-seeded White Castle in the quarterfinals and 53-48 win over No. 2 Lakeview in the champi- onship game.

Fruge led Rosepine to the non-select Division III state title, averaging 17 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She was named Most Outstanding Player in the state championship game, a 69-61 win over Amite, after scoring 25 points. Fruge was joined on the first team by team- mate Kelly Norris and Lake Vivian Ske- toe. Norris averaged 15 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game while Sketoe scored 22 points per game and added 8.0 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game. For the second time this season Rogers was named the Pitcher of the Week. The Cow- boys ace became the first pitcher in the country to win eight games last Fri- day night when he went the distance against the Islanders. It was his second complete game of the season. Rogers, the reigning Pitcher of the Year, also won the award the first week of the season. With a game at Rice (15-17) after contest, McNeese will get a chance to give a few guys some time to work things out on the mound as they look to settle their staff for the stretch run.
