Canario’s blast.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies fell to the Mississippi Braves, 9-7. With the loss, the Birmingham Barons claimed the first-half North Division title.

Things got off to a bad start as a two-out error by third baseman Luis Verdugo lead to a four-run first inning. Starter Connor Noland took the loss after he was charged with six runs, two earned, on eight hits over 2.2 innings.

The big issue in the first inning was a three-way collision in the outfield between Ezequiel Pagan, Haydn McGeary and Matt Shaw. McGeary and Shaw were fine and played the rest of the game, but Pagan had to be carried off the field.

Looks like Matt Shaw, Hadyn McGeary, and Ezequiel Pagan were in a bad collision during the first inning of today’s Tennessee Smokies game. Ambulance came on the field (for Pagan), hopefully everyone is ok

Second baseman Matt Shaw did everything he could to keep the Smokies playoff hopes alive with two home runs today. The first came with two men on in the fifth inning and the second came with one on in the eighth. Shaw was 2 for 5 with a walk. Shaw had three runs scored and five RBI. Shaw now has ten home run this year.

Verdugo was 3 for 4 with an RBI double and a walk. He’d probably give them all back to not have made two errors.

DH James Triantos was 2 for 5 with two runs scored.
