It's Official! Pakistan Knocked Out Of World Cup 2023 (2024)

Pakistan are officially out of the World Cup 2023. The Men in Green had lost all hopes of a miracle after England opted to bat. They needed to chase the target in 2.3 overs to qualify. At the toss, Babar Azam said that the team will try to restrict England to a low score and chase the target in given overs. However, this was more of a sarcastic comment and Babar himself was aware of the team's fate. England batted brilliantly and scored 337-9, with Jonny Bairstow (59), Joe Root (60 ) and Ben Stokes (84) making crucial contributions.

Pakistan entered the World Cup as one of the favourites, however, they failed to set the stage on fire. They did beat Sri Lanka and Netherlands in the first two games but defeats against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa put their campaign in jeopardy. Pakistan kept semifinal hopes alive with wins over Bangladesh and New Zealand but the equation was out of their hands. Pakistan needed struggling Sri Lanka to beat New Zealand to give the Men in Green a fair shot at the semis. A defeat for New Zealand would have stopped Kane Williamson-led side to eight points and Pakistan would have qualified with 10 points had they defeated England. However, Sri Lanka lost the game by five wickets.

Pakistan fans also pinned hopes on rain gods to save their campaign but despite a prediction of thunderstorms, it did not rain in Bengaluru as New Zealand cruised to a win. The Qudrat ka Nizam did not back Pakistan in World Cup 2023 but the Men in Green are themselves to blame for their group stage exit.

Pakistan would also rue the fact that they lost a close game to South Africa. Keshav Maharaj bailed South Africa out of trouble and helped the team win by 1 wicket.
