Dimanche, Novak Djokovic a remporté la finale de Cincinnati après une semaine exceptionnelle où il a tout donné pour son retour à la compétition. Sur son parcours, le Serbe a battu Gaël Monfils pour la 19ème fois de sa carrière, s'emparant ainsi d'un nouveau record. En effet, le Français n'a jamais réussi à battre l'homme aux 23 Grands Chelems, une tâche très difficile à accomplir pour n'importe quel joueur. En ce qui concerne la France, ils sont peu nombreux à avoir réussi.

Tout le monde avait envie d'y croire. Mais Gaël Monfilsn'arrivera vraisemblablement jamais à battre Novak Djokovicsur le grand circuit. Pourtant, il est passé proche à plusieurs reprises à l'image de Dubaï en 2020 où il a même eu 3 balles de match. C'est désormais un record : jamais un joueur n'avait affiché un bilan de 19 victoires à 0 face à un autre, juste devant le Gasquet-Nadal avec 18. Pourtant, plusieurs Tricolores ont réussi cet exploit...

Benoît Paire, le dernier vainqueur

Non, ce n'est pas une blague. Benoît Paire a bien réussi à battre Novak Djokovic dans sa carrière. C'était en 2018 au moment où le Serbe était beaucoup moins bien et était même sorti du top 10. Après son élimination d'entrée à Indian Wells face au Japonais Taro Daniel, c'est Benoît Paire qui a eu la chance de s'offrir une victoire de prestige au deuxième tour à Miami en deux sets. C'est donc la dernière victoire d'un Français sur Djokovic...

Tsonga, hors du commun

Voilà encore un argument qui pourrait nous faire dire que Jo-Wilfried Tsonga est le meilleur joueur français de l'ère Open. Le Manceau a affronté Novak Djokovic à 23 reprises et il a réussi à s'imposer 6 fois ! C'est d'ailleurs le seul Français à l'avoir battu plusieurs fois, c'est dire l'exploit. Dans leurs jeunes années, c'est même Tsonga qui avait pris l'ascendant puisqu'en dehors de leur premier en finale de l'Open d'Australie 2008, le Français remporte leurs 4 duels suivants. Il est aussi le seul à avoir battu Djokovic depuis 2011 avec Benoît Paire, à Toronto en 2014 quand il marchait sur l'eau.

Des petites succès dans sa jeunesse

Quand il a débarqué sur le circuit, Novak Djokovic n'était pas encore le joueur imbattable qu'il est aujourd'hui. C'est pourquoi plusieurs Français ont réussi à le battre une fois avant qu'il parvienne à dominer le circuit, à l'image de Richard Gasquet et Gilles Simon. Les deux autres Mousquetaires ont tous les deux battu le Serbe respectivement en 2007 et 2008 dans leurs belles années. Le premier à l'avoir battu sur le circuit ATP est un certain Antony Dupuis en 2005.
