Is England vs France a rivalry?
The historical rivalry between the two nations was seeded when the Angevin House of Plantagenet gained control over England and additional French territories and engaged in a struggle with the French ruling House of Capet to retain their French holdings; this culminated in the Hundred Years' War.
The rivalry between France and England went back hundreds of years. In 1066, William the Conqueror, a Norman lord and a subject of the Kingdom of France, became king of England. Thus, the Kingdom of England (Angevin Empire) had held territory in France, which the French throne considered to be its own vassalage.
By convention, the Hundred Years' War is said to have started on May 24, 1337, with the confiscation of the English-held duchy of Guyenne by French King Philip VI. This confiscation, however, had been preceded by periodic fighting over the question of English fiefs in France going back to the 12th century.
By our count the central states of France and England, later Britain,, fought 41 wars against each other between the first Anglo-French War in 1109 and the Hundred Days in 1815. On average that's a war every 17.3 years. In total France won 24 wars, England/Britain won 11 and 6 were a tie.
Both France and England had overseas possessions in North America, the Caribbean, Africa and India. Thus a European power struggle evolved into a series of world wars as each side tried to extend its empire at the expense of the other.

- France.
The fact is that in many ways, they are. Relations between England and France turned sour from 1689 and remained vitriolic for centuries, as the two countries locked horns in a duel that affected the whole planet. The period of conflict is known as the Hundred Year War, and it finally came to a close in 1815.
Britain and France became tacit allies at the Congress of Vienna 1814/15 when the Great Powers; Britain, Austria, Russia, Prussia and France agreed the reconstruction of Europe after the Napoleonic Wars and the concept of the balance of power in Europe.
Did the French win the Hundred Years' War? Yes, the French eventually won the Hundred Years' War. Following their defeat at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French soon recovered and won several battles and finally fully defeated the English at the Battle of Castillon in 1453.
What country won the most wars?
According to historian Niall Ferguson, France is the most successful military power in history.
Both France and the UK were key partners in the West during the Cold War, with governments of both countries consistently supporting liberal democracy and capitalism. They were founding members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) defence alliance and are permanent members of the UN Security Council.
The longest war in history is believed to be the Reconquista (Spanish for Reconquest), with a duration of 781 years.
The Normans were originally from northern France, and their conquest of England created a strong link between them. Over the centuries, the relationship between France and England became increasingly complicated, marked by wars, battles, alliances, and betrayals.
Napoleon was a great general. He is a near consensus choice for one of the best in history. He had his flaws of course, but defeating Britain was impossible due to the Royal Navy which had a comfortable superiority over the French.
France is a developed country with a high nominal per capita income globally and its advanced economy ranks among the largest in the world.
Between 1793 and 1815, under the rule of King George III, the Kingdom of Great Britain (later the United Kingdom) was the most constant of France's enemies.
Despite conflicts with various nations through the Napoleonic Wars it can be argued that during this time that France's greatest enemy was likely Britain. Britain was the first large power to declare war against the French and had the resources to commit to such a war.
Most German fans consider the Netherlands or Italy to be their traditional footballing rivals, and as such, usually the rivalry is not taken quite as seriously there as it is in England. The English and German national football teams have played each other since the end of the 19th century, and officially since 1930.
George Washington was named Britain's greatest military adversary, garnering 45 percent of the vote. He led American rebels to victory in the War of Independence, inflicting what some experts consider the greatest defeat in British military history.
Do Germany see England as a rival?
While the English public, football fans and in particular newspapers consider an England–Germany football rivalry to have developed, it is mostly an English phenomenon since most German fans consider the Netherlands or Italy to be their traditional footballing rivals.
England and Britain have a long history of war and rivalry with France. The core of this lies in 1066, when the Duke of Normandy conquered England. From then on England moved out of the North European world and into the French world.
The United States and the United Kingdom are the closest of friends and Allies, cooperating on a range of important priorities, including defense and security, a thriving economic relationship, leadership in science and technology, and deep ties between our people and civil societies.
The French navy never managed to keep to its part of the plan since it was blockaded within different European ports by the Royal Navy. And it was in trying to force its way out of the Cadiz stranglehold that the largest of these fleets was sent to the bottom at Trafalgar on 21 October 1805.
Our strategic allies include the United States, France and Germany and we have agreements with other nations, such as those belonging to the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
