time for sentencing Bail was continued at $500 of guilty of grand larceny against Miss Jean Shonka former secretary of Box Elder School was returned to Judge Lewis Jones by a jury of 1 eight members at Pioneer Utahn Special to The Tribune MONTICELLO San Juan County A 2-year-4ild boy Henry Orvil Skidmore was burned to death Friday night when flames swept through the five-room residence of his grandparents at Ucolo San Juan County about 20 miles east of Monticello The tot was a on of Mr and Mrs Skidmore who had just arrived at the residence Friday from a mining camp where they had been living The house which burned was owned by Mr Skidmore's father and step-mother Mr and Mrs 0 Skidmore The boy died en route to the San Juan Hospital at Montiee i where his parents mere taken for treatment of serious burns There were eight children under 12 years of age in the residence at the time of the fire all grandchildren of Mr and Mrs Skidmore Two were histers of the victim Lorena 21 charges involve a $30055 check mailed by the Utah High School Activities Assn March 19 1952 and which Miss Shonka testified she never saw before she cashed it Aug 21 1952 to obtain change for registration purposes at the school Defense Atty Arthur Woolley Ogden told the jury the entire testimony- in- -this trial shows the school did not do business in a business-like way The letter containing the cheek could only have been delivered to the desk of Alf Freeman principal and Mr Freeman has the primary responsibility to account for the check in this case Mr Woolley con tended County Argument Dee Lund Box Elder County attorney argued that Miss Shonka had been relieved of certain duties such as open! and banking money but continued to register bookkeeping entries The check was mailed to Mr Freeman by the A A and he testified he never saw it said Mr Lund He detailed how the check was cashed $20 bills and smaller while teachers had testified there was no need for change
